Slow Computer for Windows XP - Get the Performance Back With This Easy Tip

By Denzil De Vries

If you have noticed a degrading in the performance of your computer, be it on start up or just generally running programs or browsing the Internet, then one reason may be that the registry is corrupted in some way. This only applies to computers that use windows operating systems, such as Windows XP or Vista. By fixing the corruption you could get the performance back.

The slowing in performance of your computer is inevitable as it gets used more often. The more it is used, the more likely that it will get more data loaded onto it. This means it will take longer to find or run something. As more data is loaded on, it may also cause redundant links in the registry which can also slow down the computer.

The registry is a database file that is used by most windows operating systems, including XP and Vista. It is a central location that stores information on the locations of programs, files and various settings that might be set by the computer user. The processor will utilize the information on the registry whenever a task is initiated by the user. Amongst other things, it will look for the location of the program. If the registry is bloated with details or has information that is redundant, the system will not find the program or take a long time to find it.

So by cleaning the registry every couple of months you could improve slow computer windows XP systems. You can do this manually by entering the regedit command in the run box or you could use a software program.

There is much debate about the improvements that cleaning the registry can make, but if you subscribe to the view that it does make a difference, then the most efficient way to clean it is using software rather than manually.

Software is the easier option and can make a job that takes hours last only a few minutes. It will return any registry errors and let you make the call on whether it should fix them. Once it has run the fix, you could see your computer restored to it's own self again, running programs quicker or starting up faster.

Stop getting frustrated waiting for your computer to do something again. Run a registry cleaner and see how it can improve the performance to speeds from the dim distant past when your computer was bright eyed and bushy tailed.
